Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Re: To JGB or not to JGB...

The first time I saw the JGB, Billy K was drumming. It was at the Keystone Berkely in '82 and I was standing eye to eye with Jerry in the front row, and the stage was about a foot high - so I was literally eye to eye. He played Sugaree and They Love Each Other and it ripped my brain right out of my head. He did things in the solos that he could never do with the Dead becuase he had to consider what Phil and Bob wanted, not so with the JGB, it was pure, crystaline Jerry. It was what he and he alone wanted the music to be.

I did enjoy the grandiose nature of the GD spectacle more for blow-out tripping, but The Jerry Band just had a warm fuzzy that I could wallow in forever.

I lost my two favorite bands the day Jerry died.
